The Minot State men's and women's Golf teams wrap up DAC conference play this weekend when they travel to Spearfish, South Dakota. The men's team is currently tied for the title with Dickinson and MSU's Jordan Kelly is tied for the individual title. The Beavers are hoping to turn things around this weekend after struggling last weekend and know they'll need to play two solid rounds. Chipper Farrell, MSU golf coach:Jordan Kelly was the MVP last year and he was leading the conference and he had a poor first day. Hence, he's tied for first with a young man from Dickinson and Justin Aberle's been playing well. He's in 3rd right now. Those two I guess we have to use them and they have to play well both days. Our other two players are freshman. Travis Merglot and Ben Edwards and so as freshman go some days are good, some are bad. We have high expectations for these boys. There's a lot of talent there, hopefully we can produce. Jordan Kelly, Sophomore:I think we definitely have a shot. We all can play and if we get all of us playing at the same time, we have no problem competing. Meanwhile, MSU's Whitney Stanley is leading in the race for the DAC women's individual title but is still in search of her first tournament win. Farrell:Whitney still hasn't won her first tournament. She's leading the conference, got a good chance to win everything this year but she has not won a single tournament yet so we're hoping she can pull that off this weekend. Whitney Stanley, Sophomore:It's all right. I have a few things to work on until regionals but so far so good. The Beavers travel to Bismarck tomorrow for a meet at the Hawktree golf course before heading to Spearfish on Saturday. The team also has announced that the men's squad will pick up a player from Dickinson State as Carter Hilkewich will transfer to Minot State next year. Carter's sister, Ali will be a freshman for the women's golf team this fall.
