wow..Boys Like Girls is a four-piece American pop punk band from Boston, Massachusetts. The group completed nationwide tours with Cute Is What We Aim For, Hit the Lights and Butch Walker and topped the Top Unsigned Artist chart on PureVolume, within a few months from forming in late 2005. In August 2006 they released their debut album, Boys Like Girls via Columbia Records/Red Ink. On March 17, 2007, it was announced that the band was voted 2006 Artist of the Year by the readers of Spin.The band Boys Like Girls was formed in the final months of 2005, when singer/guitarist Martin Johnson — formerly of the Massachusetts act The Drive — wrote a handful of songs he wanted to record. He recruited bassist Bryan Donahue and drummer John Keefe, both of whom had been in bands of different setups with the frontman, most notably in the pop punk band Lancaster and less notably the short-lived local act The Bends. Keefe brought along lead guitarist Paul DiGiovanni, whom he had recorded a brief demo with, to complete the line-up. Oddly enough, the two learned that they were distant cousins several months later.[1][2] The quartet soon opened a PureVolume account to showcase their music, and uploaded a rough demo of "The Great Escape" and an acoustic rendition of "Thunder". By the end of the year, the group had landed the #1 spot on the website's Top Unsigned Artists chart"The Great Escape" is the second single from Boys Like Girls' self-titled studio debut album, and is also their first single to chart on the Billboard Hot 100, peaking at 23. The single has been certified Platinum by the RIAA, for selling over 1 million downloads.The music video was directed by Alan Ferguson, It was filmed in January 2007 by Talia Bencivenga and released in late February 2007. It has been recently added to MTV and has received considerable play on Fuse TV, MTV, and MTV2. It features the band on the road, as well as in concert, while detailing the journey of a group of their fans on the way to and during their best concert.Parts of the video were filmed on the campus of Granada Hills Charter High School in Granada Hills, California.The video was been released to UK music channels in February 2008 and is currently receiving airplay.# The music video reached #1 On Total Request Live On July 31. On its 13th Day it beat out Chris Brown's "Wall to Wall". It held the top spot for 6 days at #1 on August 9, 2007. It regained the #1 spot on August 15 beating out Paula DeAnda and Bow Wow's "Easy". This song held 9 days at #1 total. It was finally retired on TRL at #5.# The song peaked at #23 on the Billboard Hot 100, #9 on the Pop 100, #17 on the Hot Digital and at #7 on Top 40 format radio. The single has been RIAA certified Platinum.# The song has had reasonable success in New Zealand charting at #36 after less than a month of it's release from airplay/digital sales only
