Boston Tea Party - Chicago Style
Duration: 3:42Source: YouTube
Chicagoans, along with politicians like Representative Jesse Jackson Jr. and Kenny Johnson who is running for the 26th district, held a "Boston Tea Party" in Chicago to protest the over $1,000,000,000 tax increases that Mayor Daley and Cook County President Todd Stroger have proposed. They symbolically dumped bottled water in the Chicago River as it alone will be subject to a 10 cent tax increase under Daley-Stroger planning. The University of Chicago College Republicans were on hand to hear from the people and witness individuals advocating for a government that serves them! Mayor Richard Daley has proposed an unprecedented, sweeping and startling 15 percent property tax hike, more than all his previous such increases combined. He also wants to raise telephone, water and sewer rates and add a 10-cent tax on bottles of water. Days later, Cook County President Todd Stroger announced a jaw-dropping, mind-boggling tax increase plan of his own, including a tripling of the sales tax, doubling of the gas tax and two fold increase of the parking tax. Between Mayor Daley's sweeping $293 million tax hike proposal and Cook County President Stroger's stunning $888 million tax increase plan, you -- the taxpayer -- may be gouged an additional $1.3 billion next year. By conservative estimates, Chicago's "corruption tax" exceeds at least $1.5 billion in recent years, with $300 million going to do-nothing hired truckers; $500 million to illegal hiring; $100 million to fraudulent, front 'minority' contracts; and $25 million to legal bills for police torture. Meanwhile, efforts to improve education, create jobs and reduce crime are shortchanged. That's an outrage! Chicagoans are fed-up with politicians who are lining their pockets, while citizens are losing their shirts!
