Sherry said their (MQM's) blatant lies and twisting of truth stand exposed by a simple question: "If the MQM did not ambush our rally at COD crossing, then what were their boys doing there supposedly getting attacked by us? What were the MQM boys doing in the vicinity where there was nobody except PPP and ANP activists? Was I, or the PPP, supposed to be firing at our own rally?" She said the footage broadcast by independent television channels exposed the claim of the MQM that the party had not ambushed the peaceful PPP rally in front of COD bridge on Sharae Faisal. "They (MQM) said they did not have their militants waiting for us on the COD flyover, who started firing and throwing rocks at our stationary and defence-less rally on that killer crossing. It took over two hours for us to reverse such a huge number of cars, buses, jeeps and motorcycles. Can they deny what independent reporters say about their ambushes? At the Kamran Khan Show, the Geo TV reporters openly stated that the MQM activists had taken positions at key points on all overhead bridges leading to the airport, except Karsaz," she added. Rehman said that "The MQM alleged that we attacked them from a rally going to receive the chief justice from Karachi airport. Why then did we have to appeal for an ambulance through a private channel? Why did they even fire on our cars at Baloch colony again while we were taking the injured to Jinnah Hospital?" She asked, "Why did they shoot the Edhi ambulance driver Faizur Rehman who was coming to our rescue? Can they deny that they had not pre-planned to punish peaceful pro-democratic forces that did not cower at their announcement made on May 10 in Islamabad via MNA Nawab Mirza, who had said, on the record, that 'no one will be allowed to do anything in Karachi, as the city belongs to us'?" Rehman further said that, "Can they deny that when the CJ announced his visit, they also said they would challenge it whenever he planned to visit Karachi? They have changed their tone now after earning condemnation from the entire nation for their terrorist tactics. Can they deny that they had disarmed the police and other security personnel deliberately on 'Black Saturday'?" She asked whether the MQM could deny that the chief secretary had also advised them, on the record, not to plan such an operation for a simple political rally. "On the other hand, Brigadier Mohtaram had openly rejected, on the record, the chief secretary's advice, calling it Durrani's, implying that, instead of the chief secretary, he was controlling the city, she added. Rehman pointed out that Ghulam Mohtaram, a Grade-19 officer, also acknowledged that there were armed ambushes at 16 different places in the city. She asked, "Who made those ambushes while the police were told to sleep?" The PPP MNA said that the MQM had stated on May 13 that none of the PPP central leaders were present in Karachi on May 12. "Then how are they showing Sherry Rehman and Naveed Qamar, while MNAs Khurshid Shah, Manzur Wasan, Naheed Khan, Yusuf Talpur, Fehmida Mirza, Azra Fazl, Shamshad Bachani and Fauzia Wahab were also present in the rally, as were opposition leader in the Senate Raza Rabbani and Safdar Abbasi, besides Qaim Ali Shah and Nisar Khoro. "They (MQM) have a habit of killing other people and then claiming the bodies as their own. The families of innocent young people were not even allowed to mourn their dead as their bodies were not allowed to be shifted to their homes, or given burials in their own graveyards," she said, adding, "Shakilur Rehman is one such poor victim whose story is covered extensively in the local press, yet he is claimed by the MQM as their man." Sherry asked: "Could they (MQM) deny the six-hour ambush and target firing at innocent Aaj TV staffers? Why is there no answer as to why a city government car was off-loading prohibited bore weapons outside the Aaj TV building?" She claimed that one black 'Corolla' and a black 'Liyana' car, both bearing CDGK number plates, were ferrying weapons to the assailants outside the private television channel's offices.
