Medics prepare for Olympics at weightlifting venue

newly expanded and renovated, the gym at the beijing university of aeronautics and astronautics will house the weightlifting competitions at the 2008 olympics. but with less than seven months until the games get underway, it is playing another crucial role... as a venue for medical training. around 3,000 volunteers, mostly students from medical colleges and institutions, will back up beijing's professional doctors and nurses during the sporting spectacular. soundbite (mandarin) "the weight of responsibility on our shoulders is as heavy as mountain tai (one of the biggest mountains in eastern china), but we are all mentally ready. there will be no problem for us to fight the battle and prevail." supercaption: sun dandan, medical service volunteer the specialist teams will make use of 28 dedicated hospitals and over 200 medical and ambulance stations as the games draw closer. but as the gym's medical service manager wang yibling explains, there is plenty of work still to do. soundbite (mandarin) "at the moment, we are practicing and trying to improve ourselves. we made mistakes during the rehearsal and practices, but we have kept adjusting them. i believe our team will do really well by the time of the olympics." supercaption: wang yibing, medial service manager the medics may not be fully ready, but after welcoming weightlifters from across the world for an invitational warm-up event in january, the venue itself is set. games-time capacity will be around six-thousand, with over a third of those seats brought in temporarily.
