Judge declares mistrial in Spector case
Duration: 2:21Source: YouTube
Hello, I'm Rebecca Field with a UPI entertainment update on this Thursday, September 27, 2007. A judge has declared a mistrial in the case against music producer Phil Spector. He was charged with second-degree murder in the death of actress Lana Clarkson. The Jury apparently deliberated for nearly two weeks without coming up with a final verdict. The judge plans to meet with lawyers next week to decide on their next move. Clarkson was found shot dead in his mansion in 2003. Spector denies involvement, saying she took her own life. Power couple Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie made their rounds in New York yesterday. Pitt met with the Clinton Global Initiative to talk about rebuilding neighborhoods in New Orleans ravaged by hurricane Katrina. The actor is pledging 5 million dollars towards building 150 energy efficient and affordable houses in the 9th ward. Meanwhile, Jolie spoke at the UN headquarters regarding improvement in education for refugee children around the world. The actress is a UN Goodwill Ambassador. Country singer Reba McEntire's new album is topping the charts. Her new release "Reba's Duets" is number one on the Billboard 200 list. The album feaures songs with Faith Hill, Kelly Clarkson and even Justin Timberlake. It pushed Kanye West's "Graduation" to number 2 followed by 50 Cent's "Curtis." Actor and comedian Jerry Seinfeld is creating a major buzz over his new film. Seinfeld was in Toronto yesterday for a sneak peak of his new animated flick "Bee Movie." The actor told a swarm of reporters it took him 4 years to producer, write and voice. He said he wanted to make the movie because he "thinks bees are funny." The film hits most theaters November 2. Some of America's funniest comedians are signing on for this years' comedy festival. Joy Behar, Kevin Nealon, Chelsea Handler and Jim Breuer will all apparently perform in the upcoming event. Already booked on the festival are big stars like Ellen DeGeneres and Jerry Seinfeld. The event is organized by HBO and AEG Live and will take place in Las Vegas in November. That's all for now. Be sure to check out a new series on upi.com called "A Crusade to Save Abandoned Babies." Thanks for watching.
