Teens Indicted In Homeless Beatings 2/2/06 5PM Ted Scouten A Broward County grand jury indicted Thursday three teenagers accused of fatally beating one homeless man and seriously injuring two others in separate attacks last month. The treenagers face up to life in prison if convicted. The indictment charges Brian Hooks and Thomas Daugherty, both of Plantation, and William Ammons, of Fort Lauderdale, with murder in the death of Norris Gaynor. The teens were also charged with attempted murder in the beatings of Raymond Perez and Jacques Pierre. People around the world were shocked by the brutality of the beatings, one of which was captured by a security camera and broadcast on television around the world. The video played a key role in identifying the teens, authorities said. While Daugherty is just 17 and technically a minor, the grand jury chose to charge him as an adult. He has been held at a juvenile facility, but will now be transferred to the Broward County main jail, according to prosecutors. Hooks' attorney, Jeremy Kroll, did not immediately return a message Thursday afternoon. Kroll has said that witnesses statements to police show that Hooks "stood by" while carrying a bat during the attack on Gaynor, but was not directly responsible for the homeless man's death.
