(WUSA/AP) -- Prince George's County Police tell 9NEWS NOW that escaped prisoner Kelvin Poke, 45, was shot by Prince George's County Police just before 4 p.m. Wednesday.Advertisement Poke was pronounced dead at Prince George's Hospital Center, said Suzanne Almalel, a spokeswoman for Dimensions Healthcare System, which operates the hospital. Poke was shot multiple times by police inside Cedar Hill Cemetery off of Suitland Road in Prince George's County. He was near a white pick-up truck that he may have carjacked earlier, DC police say. Late Wednesday afternoon Poke was spotted at the cemetery with a female in the white truck. The shootout with police inside the cemetery ended a day-long search for Poke. Poke was a prisoner in the Maryland Corrections System who escaped from custody in Laurel Hospital Wednesday morning. Poke was transported to the hospital earlier in the day. He had complained of chest pains, and managed to escape by overpowering his guards,taking there weapons. Then he allegedly carjacked a Toyota Camry and shot a person in the head in the process. That stolen car was dumped and set on fire in the 1100 block of First Street, NW. A white pick-up truck was then reported to have been carjacked from First and M Streets, NW.
