Fredrick Lange, Director, and DHS Big Band afternoon performance at the Monterey Jazz Festival's Next Generation High School Jazz Competition in April 2006. The Big Band took 3rd place and secured a return performance at the 49th Annual Monterey Jazz Festival, Sept. 15-17, 2006. First place was awarded again this year to the Arts/Comm Magnet Academy from Beaverton, Oregon; second place went to Lexington High School, Lexington, MA. Check the Monterey's Next Generation Competition web site for results and photos which should be posted shortly. Sam Dickey (Jazz Guitar) and Morgan Jones (Alto Saxophone) were selected to play and tour with the Monterey Allstar Band this summer. Double congratulations to our man, Morgan Jones, who took home the award for Best Alto Sax and a summer school scholarship to the Berklee School.
