Oct. 22 2007. All the approvals for the use of voting computers are expired. This means that, for the time being, it is only allowed to vote with the red pencil paper ballot system. Secretary of state Bijleveld, declared the regulation of conditions and approval of voting machines 1997, and the approvals on the basis of this regulation, to be expired. This decision does not come as a supprise. At the 2007 elections for Dutch parliament, problems appeared with these voting machines, that forced some regions to fall back to the 'old paper and pencil' system. The report published in the spring of 2007,: 'voting machines, an orphaned dossier', by the commission of decision on voting machines, showed that the regulation failed on physical security protection of the machines. The advisory committee for voting proces lead by minister of state Korthals Altes, concluded that the used voting machines, were insufficiently transparent, and able to be checked. This is why the secretary of state, did not decide to adjust the regulation, but to expire the regulation Source: Staatscourant 203, 19 oktober 2007
