How Some Are Saving at Pumps
 Source: ClipSyndicate
Memorial Day is less than a week away. And before the holiday weekend...we've heard on a daily basis about rising gas and oil prices. So what are some consumers doing to protect themselves from the pinch at the pump? Ryan Davidson finds out. You hear it EVERYWHERE! ALL THE TIME! Oil is up 120 dollars a barrel, 130 dollars a barrel...140 Gas is nearing $4.00 per gallon. And even E-85 is hovering near $3.00 Prices so high that doing this {Engine starting} hurts. With prices so high consumers have had enough. So how do you still get around town, use less gas and spend much less green? The answer is not on four wheels...its on two. Local bike shops and motorcycle dealers have seen a considerable increase in sales over the past year. (Michael Hilden/ Service Mgr. Epic Sports) Where our business really picked up is in service. 20 year old bikes that people haven't ridden in quite some time and they're pulling them down from the ceilings in the garage and getting them fixed up and not paying for gas...on top of bike sales and service we're doing a lot of things commuter minded like adding racks and fenders to existing bikes that people have at home. Commuting to work can save you money on gas, but can give you a nice bit of exercise too! The average 15 minute bike ride can burn around 150 calories. But if the sweating and the whole breathing heavy thing is not your style you might want to strap a motor on your bike. Or look at these. With a 1-2 gallon gas tank you might think that you'll be seeing the gas station more often. Not so. (Josh Vallely/Vallely Sport and Marine)most of the stuff is between that 35 mph up to, they do make some that go you know 100 mph but most of the stuff we're selling is that 35-60 probably and that's getting the high gas mileage and that, you know like we were talking 80-100 miles per gallon. With a fuel economy like that you're much less likely to be beside the pump. Not to mention depending on the size of the engine you may not have to have a special license. the best thing about the 49cc motoscooter is that you don't need a motorcycle license. So anything over 50cc you do have to. So you know you'll be able to get into something that's getting 100 miles per gallon just with your regular driver's license. Which makes it much less of a hassle to save money on gas. As Gas Prices continue to rise, getting a two wheel mode of transportation can save you in the long run. The cost to fill the tank in this truck six times is enough to buy a bike like this. In Bismarck, Ryan Davidson KXNews
