Israeli troops leave Gaza
 Source: Mediascrape
Israeli tanks, armoured vehicles and soldiers have pulled back to the border with Gaza. They've withdrawn from the Gaza Strip after days of fighting which left more than 100 hundred Palestinians and a handful of Israeli soldiers dead. In the distance, trails of smoke in the sky. It's evidence of what the Israelis claim the incursion was designed to stop - Palestinian militants launching missiles into Israel. In the Israeli town of Ashkelon, damage from the attack. Israeli right-wing politicians are calling for the offensive to be stepped up. SOUNDBITE: RIGHT-WING KNSSET MEMBER YUVAL STEINITZ SAYING (English): "It is high time for us to declare war to go to defence shield two operation, not in order to deter the terrorist but in order to destroy this Iranian enclave in the south of Israel and to destroy the rocket industry in Gaza. Anything less than comprehensive ground operation will only play to the hands of the terrorists". Within the Jabalya refugee camp in Northern Gaza, the scale of the Israeli operation is clear. A dead donkey lies on the road, still strapped to a cart. Elsewhere buildings are heavily damaged and roads churned up by rocket and bomb attacks. Bodies of dead Palestinians continued to arrive at mortuaries. Hamas, the militant group which controls Gaza, says half the 112 Palestinians killed were civilians. Despite one of the bloodiest Israeli raids since the 1980s, Hamas was quick to trumpet Israel's withdrawal. SOUNDBITE: HAMAS SPOKESMAN SAMI ABU ZUHRI SAYING (Arabic): "The Hamas movement considers the Israeli withdrawal from the incursion areas north of Jabalia as an announcement of the failure of the Israeli ground attack. We draw attention to the fact that Israel is trying to cover up this failure by committing bloody massacres through air raids carried out against civilians, including children and women." The E.U is calling for calm. But Israel has promised the military action may not be over yet. Israeli government officials call the withdrawal an "interval", while U.S. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice visits the Middle East in coming days. After that it's promised similar or even more severe attacks, if the rocket fire into Israel continues. Andrew Potter, Reuters
