The music of STAR WARS is said to have been the only thing that surpassed George Lucas' dream. With his artistic prowess, John Williams managed to convince Lucas NOT to use classical music for his "space epic/opera," but rather, to let him compose a fresh palet of themes and motifs. One of the those themes that has remained so firmly ingrained in our minds is the force/ Ben Kenobi/ Luke Skywalker theme. Perhaps one of the best untold stories from this film is that of the image of Luke staring out at the binary sunset. Originally, Williams felt the scene required a dark, ominous tone. Something to show the uncertainty of Luke's future, but at the same time, the certainty that his story would soon intertwine with the great villian Darth Vader. After hearing this version, Lucas spoke to Williams and asked him to write something that was more uplifting and highlighted Luke's heroicism and give an optimistic look at the future. A... New Hope so to speak. This video presents the alternate in its entirety.
