Ornithologist Rita Ohnhaeuser has already brought more than 1000 lonely hearts together with her very special Berlin based dating agency. Unlike other match makers, Ohnhaeuser knows that her couples will never split up, because her feathered clients mate for life, Ohnhaeuser told Reuters on Friday (February 10, 2006). Her clients are lonely parrots and Ohnhaeuser has set up a dating agency for them. "Parrots are very sociable birds. In the wild they live in flocks. As pets, we keep them by themselves. Many birds get very bored and start plucking themselves or start screaming. They need a partner, they need company. That is were the idea of a matchmaking agency comes from", Ohnhaeuser said. Currently, Ohnhaeuser has around 150 parrots on her books, "getting acquainted" at the moment. It all started off with just one lost bird desperate for a mate. "The birds start plucking themselves and their owners come here because they need help. They come to me, bring their bird and the bird then can pick a partner here. We have groups of gray parrots, macaws, amazon parrots et cetera. The parrot comes to us, and then all one can do is to wait until they find their partner. Sometimes, this works very quickly- love at first sight, so to speak. Sometimes it takes two to five weeks or three or four months. The right one has to be here."
