Japanese Prime Minister Yasuo Fukuda and Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao play a game of catch during a second day of talks in the Chinese capital. Japanese Prime Minister Yasuo Fukuda was on the charm offensive in the Chinese capital on Saturday (December, 29) when he wooed his Chinese counterpart Premier Wen Jiabao to play a game of catch during the second day of meetings between the two Northeast Asian rivals. This was unthinkable only two years ago after China was rocked by anti-Japanese street protests following several visits to the Yasukuni war shrine by former Japanese Prime Minister Junichiro Koizumi. Both leaders, dressed in traditional baseball outfits, caps and mitts took time out during early morning talks at Diaoyutai, the Chinese State guest house to play catch on an indoor tennis court. Earlier at a breakfast party at Diaoyutai, Wen Jiabao said he was happy with the progress made and looked forward to future talks between the two countries. "We started to plan our futures during our talks, including high-level talks, cooperation on economic, trade and defense communication and consultation on regional and international affairs," Wen said. Talks between Fukuda and Wen on Friday (December 28) yielded no major breakthroughs on another key issue dogging relations, a row over how to develop natural gas resources in a disputed part of the East China Seas.
