The Pittsburgh Penguins have become a gigantic boulder rolling down the side of a mountain, crushing every obstacle in the path of their Stanley Cup dreams, while the Philadelphia Flyers are desperately trying to outrun the juggernaut that is their in-state rival. In this first game of their series, both teams showed everything that was expected from a Conference Final: hard hits, great saves and even a shorthanded breakaway goal. A goal from Petr Sykora put the Penguins in the lead early in the first period, but Flyer star Mike Richards made sure it was short-lived, getting his first of the night two minutes later. Richards struck again a little over halfway through the period for the Flyers only lead of the game. Just a mere 71 seconds later, it was all even thanks to a goal from Sidney Crosby. With the score tied, Evgeni Malkin scored a back breaking goal for the Penguins, just 7 seconds before the end of the first period. He had another at the start of the second period, when he slapped a shorthanded bullet past a frozen Martin Biron for a 4-2 lead that would stand until the final whistle.
