Speeding motorcyclist led police on a chase and died after crashing into a pickup

07-17-2007 McMinnville, Police attempted to stop a 1987 Yamaha motorcycle for excessive speeds on Baker Street near Keck Drive. The motorcyclist refused to stop when police attempted a traffic stop. He continued north and then entered a residential area in the NE area of town. At approximately 12:48 a.m., the northbound motorcycle crashed into the drivers side of a westbound blue Chevy pickup in the intersection of 8th and Davis Streets. The pickup careened into the side of 343 NE 8th Street, a residence. The motorcycle operator, 29-year-old Jason Buck, was pronounced dead at the scene. The pickup driver, 58-year-old Monty Minton of McMinnville, was transported to Willamette Valley Medical Center with leg injuries sustained in the crash. The pickup's passenger, 54-year-old Michael Ernest Cabana of McMinnville, was not injured. No one was injured in the residence. Jason Buck had three outstanding Probation Violation warrants for his arrest. He was also the suspect in at least one other recent motorcycle elude.
