A man walking his dog spotted a moutain lion south of Bismarck last night. But state Game and Fish officials say they have found no evidence of a lion. Brandon Cozzi was walking his dog when he saw the mountain lion in his backyard, which is just east of University of Mary. Deputies walked around several backyards in the area and found nothing. Game and Fish officials say if it was a lionit has left the area. Dorothy Feske of the Game and Fish says mountain lions are active at night and avoid people. (Dorothy Feske, ND Game and Fish Dept.) So, it's not unexpected that an animal might be traveling along the Missouri River, as it seeks out it's own territory. And then it may run into some of these areas that are more developed. In the case of this siting, from what I understand the animal took off and that just supports the fact that these animals are secretive, they are shy, and they are afraid of people. Feske says if you think you see a mountain lion, keep your pets indoors at night just to be on the safe side. Since Januarythe Game and Fish Department has had close to 80 reports of lions around the state. Only 26 of those reports were confirmed.
