CHEN: As you may know yesterday was the 19th anniversary of the Tiananmen Square Massacre. Well in Hong Kong 48,000 people gathered to remember the day and to mourn for the victims of the Sichuan earthquake. Here's more. STORY: The candle light memorial rally had nearly 50-thousand people attend. Among them... the president of Hong Kong Alliance. [Situ Hua, President, Hong Kong Alliance]: "This bloody suppression is a manipulated disaster. The earthquake is a natural disaster. We can't do much about natural disaster, but the manipulation of the disaster could be prevented. In China, even natural disasters happen due to mistakes made by man. If all of us could face it, correct it, and learn from the mistake, then the cost of natural disaster will be reduced." Some of participants attend the candlelight rally every year. [Mr. Li, Hong Kong Citizen]: "The Chinese communist government did a lot of things wrong, but they fear to admit their mistakes." [Miss Fo, Hong Kong Citizen]: "The communist regime never treats people as human beings. You can tell from the Sichuan earthquake. They are really bad." [Li Zhuoren, V.P., Hong Kong Alliance]: "It's been 19 years since the 4th June student suppression in 1989. We have to learn from history which is written by many students' blood. We have to believe that democracy is the only the way for China. We need freedom of speech, freedom of media and a real constitution against tyranny. Then China will become a democracy." Tiananmen anniversary gatherings are prohibited in the mainland. NTD, Hong Kong, China.
