Burmese Drug Lord Dies

Oct 31, 2007, NTDTV news Notorious Golden Triangle drug lord Khun Sa has died in Rangoon after a battle with high blood pressure and diabetes. Khuensai Jaiyen is a former guerrilla who acted as Khun Sa's face to the outside world for 10 years, before a 1994 split. He tells media that his former boss was cremated yesterday in Rangoon and that his ashes will be scattered in the Bay of Bengal. Decades of guerrilla war were funded mainly by proceeds of the heroin trade, from his part of the Golden Triangle. But a peace treaty was signed in 1996 with the junta's generals, and he has been been living a life of luxury under government protection. Khuensai says few in the Shan resistance movement would be mourning the death of a man they saw as a traitor. More...
