In an age dominated by advancements, redefinitions, individuality and inter-cultural relations even skeptics cling to prayers, rituals, clothing and accessories for “luck.” Luck. Some rub rabbits’ feet, wear their favorite shirts, pray or sing; in Thailand, they release little brown birds from little bamboo cages. These birds congregate in the trees around dusk each day and sing louder than the rush-hour traffic below. They flutter on the electrical lines and chirp outside of restaurants on wedding days, test days, game days -everyday reminding the people of their cause... luck. But they’re only birds. And aren’t humans actually quite similar? This piece (a video aphorism) addresses the relationship of individuality and luck with respect to its grandiose “nature” and multiple shades of gray. An art film by Crystal Hartman.
