Floods plague U.S. Northwest
The clean-up has begun in the U.S. Northwest after gusting winds and a heavy rain storms caused havoc in Oregon and Washington state. Five storm-related deaths were reported in both states and Interstate 5, the main highway connecting Seattle to Portland, was completely closed by floodwaters for a 20-mile stretch. In some areas, the water covering I-5 is about 10 feet deep.....providing enough water for even this salmon to cross a road in Western Washington. The gusting winds toppled powerlines and trees...officials say tens-of-thousands of Northwest residents are still without power. The state of Washington has called in more than 100 members of the National Guard to help with emergency operations in 12 counties where flood warnings have already been issued.
