He suffers with well over 125 million people throughout the world: 7.5 million in the USA alone. There is NO absolute cure for psoriasis. Sure, there are many treatments; but, each has a different level of desired success for each person affected. Psoriasis is a chronic disease affecting both sexes. It is characterized by thick, red, silvery, scaled patches of the skin located on the elbows, knees, other parts of the legs, scalp, lower back, face, palms, soles of the feet, fingernails, toenails, genitals, and inside the mouth. It is most common (getting it) between the ages of 15 and 35; although, it can occur at any age. There is no known cause or cure to date. However, there is evidence that genetics and the immune system may be involved. Recent research has pointed to an abnormality of the immune system's T-cells as the source. The Greek word "psoria" means "itch" and ranges in degree from mild to severe. It can also cause arthritis in joints as well. Koebner's phenomenon (trauma to the skin), emotional stress, and medications can cause flare-ups. And even though, Psoriasis is better in the summer for some reason, most who suffer from this skin condition, feel emotionally affected, often insecure and cannot enjoy life fully like others.
