May 18th, 2008: San Diego Padres 2 at Seattle Mariners 3 F -- Second baseman Jose Lopez endured a 2007 season that no one should have to go through. He lost his brother, Gabriel, on June 13 in a motorcycle accident in Venezuela. He couldn't even get home for the funeral. His season virtually collapsed, as he hit just .213 with three home runs and 15 RBIs after the All-Star break. But Lopez has a renewed spirit this season, and his game-winning, two-out, two-run double off reliever Heath Bell in the eighth inning to beat the Padres, 3-2, on Sunday reflects the kind of season he is now having. "Things happened last year in his life, but I could tell the first day of Spring Training that he was coming to play," Mariners' manager John McLaren said. "He's having fun. He's been our best player from Spring Training to now. That's not knocking anybody. It's someone who deserve it. He's having fun playing baseball again.
