McCain at the Republican Convention: Change is Coming
Duration: 9:25Source: YouTube
McCain did an excellent job tonight at the Republican Convention. Some will think that he didn't bash Obama enough, but I think that there was enough Obama bashing from the other speakers on the previous nights. I think that McCain wanted to present himself to the American public in a more statesmen like way, someone who is not interested in scoring points or getting credit, bust just someone who is only interested in doing what is right for America, and its people. After this speech, I feel even more confident in voting for John McCain for President. McCain: Palin 'just the right partner' ST. PAUL, Minnesota (CNN) -- John McCain vowed Thursday to "shake up Washington" and said he's prepared to reach across the aisle to get the country "back on the road to prosperity and peace." He said his running mate, Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin, is "just the right partner" to help lead the change. "She's tackled tough problems like energy independence and corruption," he told the Republican National Convention. "She stands up for what's right and she doesn't let anyone tell her to sit down." He added, "Let me offer an advance warning to the old, big-spending, do-nothing, me-first, country-second Washington crowd: Change is coming." In a speech before a giant screen showing an American flag waving against a blue background, McCain talked about the economy and education and promised to put the people first. Video Watch "We're going to win this election" » "I understand who I work for. I don't work for a party. I don't work for a special interest. I don't work for myself. I work for you," he said, to cheers from the crowd. "These are tough times for many of you. ... All you ever asked of government is to stand on your side, not in your way. And that's just what I intend to do: stand on your side and fight for your future." McCain vowed to embark on the "most ambitious national project in decades" through a bold energy plan that would produce more energy within the United States. "We are going to stop sending $700 billion a year to countries that don't like us very much," he said, drawing some of the loudest cheers of the night. He contrasted his aims with those of his "opponent," who, he said, would raise taxes and institute a health care system that would force "small businesses to cut jobs, reduce wages and force families into a government run health care system where a bureaucrat stands between you and your doctor." McCain also made reference to the 5½ years he spent as a prisoner of war in Vietnam, saying that was when he "fell in love with" his country. "I loved it for its decency, for its faith in the wisdom, justice and goodness of its people. I loved it because it was not just a place but an idea, a cause worth fighting for," McCain McCain also hailed President Bush "for leading us in those dark days following the worst attack on American soil in our history, and keeping us safe from another attack many thought was inevitable."
