Rolling Stones film premieres
Oscar winning film director Martin Scorsese starts 'em up, the Rolling Stones that is, in his new documentary, "Shine a Light." The documentary of the legendary rock band premiered in New York over the weekend. Lead singer Mick Jagger initially wanted to film their mega concert in Brazil, but Scorsese convinced them to do a smaller venue in New York. (SOUNDBITE) (English) MICK JAGGER, THE ROLLING STONES, SAYING: "Yeah, this is like a very intimate Stones concert, and you feel like you are almost on the stage, or very close to it, or very close to the action." Scorsese, who has used the Stones' songs in several of his movies, features 17 numbers, including hits like "Start Me Up" and "Brown Sugar." Singer Christina Aguilera and blues guitarist Buddy Guy make cameos. And Scorsese's eye takes you to places you've never seen. (SOUNDBITE) (English) MARTIN SCORSESE, FILM DIRECTOR, SAYING: "I'm just looking at it for pure beauty of performance, and that's the idea. It's something that I'd like to capture for people in the future to see, to experience them. Don't forget, the cameras were placed in such positions that the audience doesn't normally get to see." Fans in the U.S. can see the intimate film in the huge screen IMAX format ... as well as at regular theaters beginning Friday. Fred Katayama, Reuters.
