The teams met over this past weekend with the Red Sox taking 2 of 3. NY Yankees shortstop Derek Jeter missed the Red Sox series with a left quad muscle and is expected back for this series with Boston. Wang has been brilliant for the Yankees this season as he is a perfect 3-0 on the season. In his start against the Red Sox last Friday night he held the Red Sox to only 1 run on 2 hits over 9 innings. Wang has only given up 3 earned runs over 22 innings of work this season. Mariano Rivera has 3 saves in 4 appearances for the Yankees heading into Monday’s action. Rivera has pitched 4 scoreless innings this season giving up only 2 hits. If Wang can give the Yankees 8 good innings at home they will be in good shape in this game. Big Papi has been in a slump for the Red Sox as he had only 1 hit in his last 28 at bats through last Sunday’s action. Buccholz gave the Red Sox a quality start last Friday night giving up only 1 run and 4 hits in 6 innings pitched against the Yankees. Buccholtz can be his own worst enemy at times by giving up bases on balls and he allowed 3 free passes against the Yanks. I am going to play under 9 runs in this game. Wang is in very good form and pitches well at Yankee Stadium. Both teams are banged up with Lowell on the DL for Boston and Posada and Molina nursing injuries. Wang’s ERA was over 2 runs lower at home than on the road last season. Play it over 9 runs.
