It happened after a gas blast ripped through a coal mine in north China today. it's yet another terrible disaster to hit the country's most dangerous industry. The explosion happened at a mine in Hongtong county in the northern province of Shanxi, which is China's largest coal-producing province. Local media report that 104 miners died in the explosion and only 15 survived. According to one of China’s state-media outlets, the rescue team believes managers at the Xinyao mine delayed reporting the accident and instead tried to launch their own rescue operation, which increased the death toll. China’s coal industry is still the world's deadliest, claiming close to 5,000 lives last year alone.
