Hi, I’m Kristin Volk on this Wednesday, the 21 day of May, 2008 with a UPI Headline Update. Senator Barack Obama is nearing the finish line for the Democratic presidential nomination. The Illinois senator now has a majority of pledged delegates after yesterday's primaries in Kentucky and Oregon. Obama and his rival Senator Hillary Clinton split those states, with Clinton winning Kentucky and Obama taking Oregon. The former First Lady is vowing to fight on and has warned her counterpart against declaring premature victory. Massachusetts Senator Ted Kennedy is out of the hospital. The 76-year-old Democrat was diagnosed with a malignant brain tumor yesterday after suffering a seizure over the weekend. Doctors say they're consulting with the Senator to determine the best course of treatment. For Kennedy's type of tumor, the usual treatment includes radiation and chemotherapy. Israel and Syria say they're in indirect peace talks…and Turkish officials are apparently mediating the process. The last round of negotiations broke down eight years ago because of a disagreement over Israel's withdrawl from Golan Heights. Israel and Syria have technically been at war over the Golan Heights since 1967. A spokesperson for Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert said both sides were talking in good faith. Oil prices have hit another record high. The cost of a barrel is now more than $130. This comes as concerns over supply increase and the dollar weakened. Oil is now selling for about twice what is was a year ago. Prices have been propelled by factors like insufficient supply, soaring global demand and a sliding dollar.
