대관령박물관은 백두대간 능선을 병풍삼아 대관령 중턱에 자리잡은 박물관이다. 자연과 어울리는 단아한 모습의 이 박물관은 1993년 5월 홍귀숙 관장이 사비를 들여 문을 열었다. 홍귀숙 관장은 일찍이 소장품을 사회에 환원하겠다는 뜻을 밝힌 바 있었는데, 2003년 2,000여 점의 소장품과 박물관 건물을 강릉시에 기증함으로써 문화재의 사회환원을 실천하였다. 강릉시에서는 기증자의 뜻을 기려 기증 전과 같이 기증자가 수집한 자료로만 박물관 전시실을 꾸며 놓았다. 박물관 전시실은 네 방위를 수호하는 사신의 이름을 따, 청룡방·백호방·주작방·현무방으로 구분하였으며, 현무방과 청룡방 사이에 토기방·청룡방과 주작방 사이에 우리방을 두었다. 내용출처 : 강릉시청
