city hall shakeup-- with the results of yesterday’s election-- still being felt. the big victory of the night-- richard r-j berry will be the new mayor of albuquerque. berry took 43 percent of the vote-- ousting incumbent martin chavez-- and beating richard romero. the margin of victory also assured there would not be a runoff. after giving his acceptance speech last night-- the mayor elect was quick to layout his plans for the city of albuquerque. "i want to sit down with the men and women of the police department and look at what they have to say about it, we need to make sure property crime is a priority. put the resources with property crime so we can start tackling that issue right away." berry says he also wants to make city hall more efficient by finding overlaps and filling gaps. he "officially" takes the office-- minute thumbnail 12:06 pm in december as for incumbent mayor-- martin chavez-- he is meeting right now with mayor- elect berry-- having lunch to discuss a transition of power. last night - as it became clearer berry would win more than 40 percent of the votes... chavez thanked his supporters and campaign staff for their hard work. chavez himself didn't say whether or not he is officially done with politics-- but did thank supporters-- and talk about his time in office. "what an incredible honor it is to be bestowed on me-- to have been mayor of my hometown-- we have transformed, this community." he is urging mayor elect berry-- to make sure the city keeps going forward.
