He was like Conan the Barbarian ... That was the most impressive thing to me. He was just a warm-hearted gentleman.
If you can remember the first opening scene of 'Conan the Barbarian,' the first one
The sword is supposed to symbolize the power and strength that Conan the Barbarian represents
I created Brak for the fantasy magazines because there wasn’t enough Conan [the Barbarian] to go around
The biggest influence for me is Conan the Barbarian ... I’m partially Norwegian and I’ve always focused on that. I just love stuff that’s over-the-top and epic.
To put yourself out there in your 60s? As Conan the Barbarian? I could see why he’d hesitate ... You’re really putting yourself out there.
Conan the Barbarian thus far has been the perfect example of how to make great comics.
a superhero crime noir story. I’ve also described it as like the ‘X-Files’ if you replaced Mulder with Conan the Barbarian.
We do not know if Conan the Barbarian actually lived, but if he ever did, he must have been to Antandros.
To put yourself out there in your 60s? As Conan the Barbarian? I could see why he’d hesitate
Conan the Barbarian meets Full Metal Jacket with a dash of Deliverance.
After playing Ronan Dex on Stargate Atlantis Jason’s popularity has sky-rocketed. He’s gone on to play Conan in Conan the Barbarian, Keegan in Bullet to the Head and of course Khal Drogo in Game of Thrones for which he’s established a cult following
By the end of [Conan of the Barbarian]
It's Shakespeare meets Robert E. Howard, who did 'Conan the Barbarian.' It's a pain in the ass to write that way, it is not natural….it was constantly rubbing your belly, patting your head, chewing gum and riding a unicycle all at the same time.
I was mad as hell because I felt that every one of the killings in Conan [the Barbarian] was well shot and extraordinary. So what if the first thing you see is Thulsa Doom raiding Conan's boyhood village and that his mother's head goes flying through the air?
Bringing their kinetic 'Demo' energy to the barbarian, 'Conan' was a thrill for both new readers and Conan-stalwarts, and the duo did an amazing job translating the bloody nudist 'Queen Of The Black Coast' to the page, a feat alone which should qualify the book as one of the best in 2012.
And he has to access the barbarian he was in his youth. I love that Conan has been many things in his life, notably a pirate, a major tactician and a commander of men. In this movie, we're going to tap into some of those things – things you haven't seen on screen yet.
I remember the first time I met him, I was about 8 years old, the first thing that struck me was … he was Bombaata from 'Conan the Barbarian,' ... That was the most impressive thing to me. He was just such a warmhearted gentleman. I have nothing but praise for him, obviously. To pass him up is a huge honor, to say the least.
It was impossible to say no ... If I ever had a desire to write any 'Star Wars,' it doesn't get any better than a gig like this -- classic characters, freedom to pick the story I want to tell, a new series, a new number one and the prestige of having the thing be called, simply, 'Star Wars.' Add the positive experience I'm having at Dark Horse on 'Conan the Barbarian' and 'The Massive' and it's a no-brainer.
About the T&A thing, you know, people said that same thing about Black Canary when it was announced I would be taking over ‘Birds of Prey.’ Red Sonja’s got a metal swimsuit, sure, but she wears more clothes than Conan ... She’s a stunning image just standing still, I love that — but if you look up ‘ferocity’ in the dictionary, there’s a picture of Sonja (well, there should be). In a sea of testosterone-laden barbarian comics, Sonja was more kickass than any of them, to me. I just dearly love her.
