FIBA, the International Basketball Federation, is the world governing body for basketball, with its headquarters in Geneva, Switzerland. The abbreviation 'FIBA' derives from the French 'Fédération Internationale de Basketball Amateur'. FIBA establishes Official Basketball Rules, the specifications for equipment and facilities, and all internal executive regulations that must be applied to all international and Olympic competitions, controls and governs the appointment of international referees, regulates the transfer of players from one country to another, and controls and governs all international competitions.

The FIBA family includes: FIBA Africa, FIBA Americas, FIBA Asia, FIBA Europe, and FIBA Oceania. Events include FIBA Continental Championships as well as FIBA World Championship Men, FIBA World Championship Women, FIBA U19 World Championship Men, and FIBA U19 World Championship Women.
