The Berliner Philharmoniker (Berlin Philharmonic) was founded in 1882 and is a democratic, self-governing orchestra with 128 world class musicians. It orchestra is located in the Philharmonie in Berlin, Germany, and was voted number three of the top European Orchestras after the Vienna Philharmonic and the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra.
On September 13, 2009, the Berlin Philharmonic present Lulu, an opera by Alban Berg, Paul Dessau's Les Voix for soprano, piano and orchestra, and Dimitri Shostakovich's Symphony No. 4.
