Major League Baseball (MLB) is the highest level of professional baseball in North America. The MLB is made up of two different leagues--the National League and the American League. Each of these leagues is then broken up into an east, west, and central division. The Major League Baseball organization operates these two leagues as a single league since 2000, when each of the leagues gave up their separate legal rights. The National League however has a longer history that dates back to the 1870s. MLB attributes 1869 as their official founding year, which was the year when the first professional team was established--the Cincinatti Red Stockings.

The regular season of MLB consisters of 162 games. In July, all teams take a break and the Major League Baseball Home-run Derby and All-Star Game commence. The MLB playoffs then begin in October and can sometimes go into November.

One final note is to mention that Major League Baseball was one of the earliest adopters of online streaming an entire season out of all North American major professional leagues.
