National Basketball Association (NBA)
The National Basketball Association, more commonly referred to as the NBA, is a professional basketball league based out of North America but is well known around the world. The league was founded back in New York City on June 6, 1946 and was known then as the Basketball Association of America (BAA). The BAA only consisted of 11 teams back then. The league changed its name to the National Basketball Association in 1949 after it merged with the National Basketball League (NBL). The NBL consisted of 13 teams and was started in 1937.

During the regular NBA season, every team plays 82 games, where 41 of each are spent home and away. In February, the regular season comes to a hold for the annual NBA All-Star Game. In April, the NBA playoffs begin with eight teams in each conference going for the Championship. Each team plays another in a best-of-seven series, with the first team to win four games advancing into the next round, while the other team is eliminated from the playoffs.
