Created by Dick Wolf in 1990, Law & Order has continued to engage audiences until the last episode which aired on May 24th, 2010. Law & Order, set in New York City, is a drama following a crime from start to finish. The first half of the hour long program shows New York City's finest investigating the crime and securing the suspect. The second half hour brings the audience into the court room where we view both the prosecution and defense state their case and watch the jury make a final determination.
Law & Order is more of a franchise than a TV show, capitalizing on video games and a variety of spin off's like Law & Order: Special Victims Unit. The original series featured such renowned actors like Jerry Orbach
, Jeremy Sisto
, Epatha Merkerson who all contributed to the series for a decade or more. Throughout the years, Law & Order has been recognized by both critics and peers, taking home an Emmy for Outstanding Drama Series in 1997 and a Screen Actors Guild Award for Best Screen Male Actor in a drama series to both Sam Waterson (1999) and Jerry Orbach
Law & Order will continue to engage new audiences as the show airs on TNT in syndication. Though the ending of a 20 season run is nothing to gawk at, the infamous "Chung Chung" sound effect and new crimes that are intriguing, for even a city like New York, will surely be missed.
