Man vs. Wild is a Discovery Channel series that pits English adventurer
Bear Grylls against some of the most challenging scenarios Mother Nature has to offer. The basic episode format is that Grylls is left stranded in an area and has to survive and find his way back to civilization. First airing in 2006, Man vs. Wild takes the reality TV survival concept to the extreme. The series has received criticism for “fabricating” some of the situations in where staff and crews will help Grylls off camera or use special effects to simulate a more dangerous situation. In response some episodes of Man vs. Wild were re-edited to remove scenes that looked too scripted.
Bear Grylls is the youngest Englishman to climb Mount Everest at the age of twenty three. At the age of thirty five he was appointed the youngest ever Chief Scout of The Scout Association in the UK. In addition to his Man vs. Wild outings his other adventures include crossing the North Atlantic, an Antarctic expedition, and setting the world record for the longest indoor free-fall. With many of his outings he raises awareness about the environment and supports the children’s charity Global Angels.
