The main characters of The Good Guys, Jack and Dan, go from one police investigation to the next in each new episode. While very familiar with proper police investigation techniques, the two usually decide to use their own unique methods in order to solve the different cases.

Jack and Dan are as different as day and night. Jack is a detective who always strives to play by the rules. He wants to do things right. However, he continually underminds himself. This results in Jack finding himself in a dead-end job with the police department. Dan, his partner, is a drunken veteran. He would have been fired from the department many times, in previous years, if it was not for his heroism a number of years earlier. Due to his heroism this is how he is looked at opposed to how he really is.

Matt Nix is the creator of the show. The main actors in The Good Guys include Bradley Whitform, Colin Hanks, and Jenny Wade. Whitform does a great job of portraying the character of the drunken investigator, Dan. Hank portrays the character Jack in the TV show. Wade plays the attractive character of Liz Traynor. The cast works well together and they seem to blend their characters together which results in a great, entertaining television show.
