The Real World is a reality television series owned and operated by MTV. The Real World features the lives of seven strangers picked by the MTV cast to live together. The strangers live together in the confines of a large city and usually live in a modern mansion of some sort.

The first season of the Real World was filmed in New York and took place in 1992. Since then, the Real World has been filmed in such locations as New Orleans, Las Vegas, Miami, Los Angeles, and Houston. Every year, the MTV staff comes up with a new city to film the Real World within.

The main premise of the Real World is putting people of diverse backgrounds together and seeing how they react to one another. It can be fascinating to see a lesbian live with a woman from a very conservative background. Other times, there is tension between housemates that have an attraction for each other but may currently have a boyfriend or girlfriend at home. Seeing how the characters resolve these difficulties is one of the major draws of the Real World. The most drama occurs when the cast has been out partying for a night and may end up coming back home a bit intoxicated.
